The events surrounding Hurricane Ian in September 2022 have underscored the critical importance of pre-disaster planning and coordination. As a region susceptible to hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, and various other natural hazards, Collier County faces potential consequences such as structural damage to homes and belongings, disruptions to power and water services, extensive harm to trees and vegetation leading to mobility issues, and damages caused by windborne debris. Recent hurricanes have reminded us that we need to do a good job of communicating as residents of Carlton Lakes. Below is a checklist of recommended actions that residents should take to improve readiness for hurricanes or other disasters that may impact Collier County and south Florida.
 
Actions you should take in the event of a Hurricane:

• Provide your phone number and other contact information to your local Board so they can communicate important emergency or disaster-related information in a timely manner.
 
• Ensure that someone in Carlton Lakes has authorized access to your home in the event of post-disaster inspections and other reasons, such as a neighbor, Home Watch person, Property Manager, or Board member.
 
• Make sure that items on your lanai or exterior of the property are secured or removed before leaving Carlton Lakes; during a hurricane threat, unsecured contents can become hazards.
